Such a simple sign, that humans have drawn, even on rock face walls and caves for thousands of years. In the US. the Navajo, and sometimes the Hopi Indian`s , used the symbol not only while painting, but also, in their silver jewelry, they made for them selfs to ware, for hundreds of years. This is an interesting discussion. However, although I totally agree with all the smart ones, refering to the original meaning of the swastika sign, I think the argument can be resolved quickly by refering to the question about which meaning of the swastika WulffMorgenthaler did have in mind when producing the strip. The essence, the pointe of the Strip, is its reference to the use of the swastika in the 3rd Reich and nothing else.

I think WM (as probably almost everyone) knows that it isn't the nazi emblem, but the mirrored version of it. Painting it wrong is (i think) part of the joke. So why every second commenter mention it?

Actually it is the Nazi's which have been abusing a religious symbol. The swastika is an ancient Budist (?) symbol and can be seen plentiful in all kinds of temples in Asia. So using it again for the Red Cross is replacing one religious symbol (the Christian cross) for another would not solve a lot....

So no wonder that our friend Dicky would turn to this...

The strip looses a wee bit of the fun part when, that particular logo is actually still in use today. And it's meaning is nothing like the swastika of Nazi Germany.
